We are seeking a Compatible support person to care for Harry, a young adult male with 24 hour support needs. Harry lives in his own home with family in a lovely market town with good transport links by rail and road, just off the A3, in the lovely South Downs. No pets or smoking, low arousal, peaceful environment.
Although awareness of Autism would be helpful, compatibility with Harry is the essential component. Your persona needs to be calm and cheerful, solutions focussed and able to prioritise quickly with the resources available.
Harry is very chatty, mobile and loves a good laugh, he enjoys table based activities, building, jigsaws, model making , crafts, cooking, interacting with the neighbours and dogs in the community, funny videos, comedy nights, shows, music of various kinds and singing along. Harry loves to go out in the car.
If Harry is frightened, he can respond with behaviour that needs support, this is why it is important to be able to know him and anticipate outcomes. You will need to have excellent observation and listening skills. Family will be around to guide for an induction and any solo care would be progressive. An ability to maintain exceptional levels of privacy is essential.
A rota of shifts are available and flexible, 10am - 2pm, 2pm til 10pm, 10pm til 10 am, 7 days a week, shifts can be combined, we do have an en-suite bedroom available and could consider occasional live in.
Daily requirements involve lots of observation and listening,
Planning and preparation,
Anticipating outcomes,
Calm composure and cheerful,
Moving from night-time observation ‘on call’ sleep in,
Into checking, all is well with Harry, verbally and through observation,
Personal care assistance maybe required with showering and toileting but this is kept as minimal as possible for Harrys’ sake,
Support with drying as required and applying any creams,
Dressing,
Breakfast,
Medication, (there are some medical needs which would be disclosed as needed).
Activities,
You will need to maintain a safe hygienic environment but the priority at all times must be Harry’s well-being. When he is settled in activity, household duties can be attended to.
Preparing meals and plans for the day, trips out.
Lunch indoors or out.
Afternoon activities.
Keeping Harry safe both indoors and out,
Helping with verbal interaction and sometimes guiding prompting conversations with others.
A car driver with a valid driving license would be very helpful but not essential.
You will need to be physical fit and energetic to manage some of the requirements.
Willing Companionship, Prompting and encouraging.
Our aim is to maintain consistency in Harry’s daily routine, written notes will be required reporting daily care, medications, activities and any immediate urgent needs to be reported to the relevant person.
Strong communication skills are necessary to build rapport with Harry, family and other team members. Enhanced DBS check required.
We will consider both self-employed or PAYE on a permanent basis, following an induction.
